Intel Social Media Strategist, Michael Brito, does a bang-up job of explaining social media in a minute and twelve seconds and still has  time to play with the kids.

meme n 1: a cultural unit (an idea or value or pattern of behavior) that is passed from one person to another by non-genetic means (as by imitation); "memes are the cultural counterpart of genes"

to mime (third-person singular simple present mimes, present participle miming, simple past and past participle mimed)

  1. To mimic.
  2. To act without words.
  3. To represent an action or object through gesture, without the use sound.

Much of the personal mail I get from this site refers to the name of the site, whether asking for a definition, warning me of the negative SEO implications of using such a ridiculous name, proving they get the joke by just writing “enquiring mimes want to know”, or cursing me to damnation for such a wretchedly difficult URL to type.

Admittedly, enquiring mimes is a lame pun in search of a joke, but the pun continues.

The term meme, though not new, has gained has gained a trendy cool cache recently when used to describe the units of information circulated on the web and in Twitter, both cultural and technical.  We even use it around here to describe short pieces of information that we lump together rather than writing full posts.

Therefore, what are we?  Purveyors of Memes, hence this website will be available as either enquiringmemes.com or enquiringmimes.com, but never as enquiringmames.com.

Oh yes, if you really hate trying to spell “enquiring” and don’t consider bookmarking a solution, this site is also available as mimezone.com.

MimesWelcome to Blugfugue Media’s EnquiringMimes. The folks over at EnquingMimes believe “today’s master skill is understanding and being able to use technology to get things done, ” and that if you are over 27, you’re playing catch up. Not just baby boomers, we all need help sometimes figuring it all out. EnquiringMimes aims to be your guide to the technology you really need on issues like these:

  • How to edit an image?
  • Whether you really have to use Microsoft Office?
  • How’s the best way to keep a to-do list?
  • What’s Linux and why might I possibly need it?
  • How do I set up a wireless network at home?
  • Skype, hmmm, do I really have to pay for long distance?
  • What do I do with all these digital pictures?
  • What’s the easiest way to sell all that semi-junk in the garage?
  • What do I do with my records, cassettes, CDs?

Give them a look.
